A Courageous Voice and Hope Against Trafficking: Working together in schools
DETROIT, Mich. — A Courageous Voice has partnered with Hope Against Trafficking. Lexie Schwarze, Executive Director for Hope Against Trafficking, and Amy Mullins, CEO and Founder of A Courageous Voice, will collaborate using prevention education around child safety by working with schools and communities within Oakland County.
Hope Against Trafficking was created with the realization that there was a lack of long-term, safe, restorative environments for adult survivors of human trafficking. By working with A Courageous Voice, both organizations can provide vital lessons in prevention education to children to keep them safe off and online.
The mission of Hope Against Trafficking is to create a safe space with restorative programing for survivors of human trafficking to rewrite the stories of their lives while also providing community education. The theme of safety mirrors the mission of A Courageous Voice: to prevent and protect children from child sexual abuse using evidence-based, educational tools to raise awareness and empower families to stop this violence.
Human trafficking has been reported in every zip code in Michigan. Additionally, one in ten children will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday. These statistics are why the missions of Hope Against Trafficking and A Courageous Voice are so essential. Children who have been abused are higher at-risk to become part of a more vulnerable population, being manipulated into toxic and abusive lifestyles such as sex and labor trafficking. Prevention education around child safety is the best way to give children safer and brighter futures, and help build stronger communities to reduce the statistics around trafficking and abuse.
